Welcome to SIBGRAPI 2008, the XXI edition of the Brazilian Symposium on Computer Graphics and Image
Processing, held 12-15 October 2008 in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul. SIBGRAPI is the most important
Brazilian meeting in the areas of Computer Graphics, Image Processing, and Computer Vision. It is held yearly with
the sponsorship of the Brazilian Computer Society, since the first meeting in 1988. Since 1997, the proceedings have
been published by IEEE Computer Society.
We received 107 paper submissions, and each paper was evaluated, double-blind, by at least three reviewers.
We accepted 38 high-quality papers, representing a 35% acceptance rate. It should be mentioned that the overall
quality of submissions was very good this year, leading to the nonacceptance of some good quality papers in the
borderline region.
The richness of this volume can be mainly credited to the authors, who have chosen SIBGRAPI to present their
work, to the Program Committee members, who helped to guide the reviewing process, and to the reviewers, who
dedicated their valuable time to read carefully and evaluate each one of the 107 papers submitted to the conference.
We also would like to thank the local organization committee, the several committees in charge for the different
technical activities, the invited speakers, the session chairs, and the tutorial instructors. Finally, we are grateful to
several institutions which were involved directly or indirectly in the organization of SIBGRAPI 2008: Universidade
do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (UNISINOS), Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE), Universidade Federal do
Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS), Universidade Católica Dom Bosco (UCDB), and the Brazilian Computer Society
(SBC).
